Information is available about the proportion of older disabled people who live in one-person households, and the proportion who need assistance with daily living.

The New Zealand Disability Survey 2006 found that:

  • 34% (65,000) of disabled adults aged 65+ lived in one-person households, compared to 24% (64,500) of non-disabled adults of the same age.[1]
  • 7% (4700) of disabled adults aged 65+ who lived in one-person households had high support needs, which means that they needed daily help with a range of everyday tasks.[2]
