The professional, ethical, auditing, and assurance standards of the XRB don't always take full account of the scope and nature of public sector audits. Therefore, the Auditor-General issues their own supplementary standards for all auditing work done on their behalf.

27 October 2022: Earlier this year, Auditor-General John Ryan reached the mid-point of his seven-year term. He commissioned a review to reflect on where we are as an Office, identify the challenges the Office faces, and confirm the key priorities for the rest of his term.

June 2020: We set out our proposed work programme for 2020/21 and the work that we are considering for the following two years. We intend to use all our core functions to inform our work and, in particular, our assessment of the Covid-19 response and recovery effort. Other key work programmes will also continue, including assessing how well the public sector is delivering on outcomes for New Zealanders and progressing our multi-year programmes on procurement, public accountability, and well-being.

June 2019: The Annual Plan 2019/20 sets out our proposed work programme for 2019/20. The work programme describes the second year of our three-year Procurement work programme and the work we will complete under our Water management theme. We will begin work under our Improving the lives of New Zealanders theme. Our plan also describes the good practice guidance we intend to update, our work focused on ethics and integrity, and our continued work on assessing the state of the public sector accountability system.
October 2018: Our annual report tells our stakeholders – Parliament, public entities, and New Zealanders – about our performance for the year 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018.
June 2018: The Annual Plan 2018/19 sets out our proposed work programme for 2018/19. The work programme outlined in this plan strongly supports the ultimate outcome that we seek from all our work – that Parliament and New Zealanders can have trust and confidence in the public sector. Procurement is the theme for our theme-based work starting in 2018/19, with work on procurement continuing in the following two years.
