Educational performance indicators

This graph shows educational performance. Te Pūkenga and the ITPs/Crown entity subsidiary companies are required to provide particular data for indicators of their educational performance. These are called Educational Performance Indicators (EPIs). EPIs are metrics used to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of an education institution or programme. They provide insights into the quality, efficiency, and impact of educational activities.

Institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs)/Te Pūkenga are required to provide particular data as indicators of their educational performance. These Educational Performance Indicators (EPIs) are:

  • first-year retention rate;
  • cohort-based qualification completion rate;
  • course completion rate; and
  • progression rate.

In the period 1 January 2016 to 31 March 2020, before Te Pūkenga was established, the 16 institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs) operated independently.

There were no significant changes in the ITPs’ average educational performance reported between 2016 and 2019.

Te Pūkenga began operating on 1 April 2020 and the 16 ITPs became its Crown entity subsidiary companies.

There were no significant changes in the Crown entity subsidiary companies’ average educational performance reported between 2020 and 2022.
