Total equity
These graphs show the total consolidated equity in dollar thousands. The amounts appear in the statement of financial position (or equivalent) in the annual reports. Each amount is calculated as assets minus liabilities. Total equity represents the net value of assets after liabilities are deducted. It reflects the ownership value or net worth of an organisation.
From 2015/16 to 2021/22:
- The DHBs’ smallest combined equity for the 7-year period was in 2015/16.
- In 2016/17, the Government converted existing DHB debt owing to the Crown to equity.
- The increase in equity for the DHBs in 2020/21 was about $1.5 billion.
- DHBs’ combined equity reported was $7.6 billion in 2021/22.
- The increase in equity for the DHBs in 2021/22 was about $1.4 billion.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and the Māori Health Authority | Te Aka Whai Ora began operating on 1 July 2022:
- By the end of 2022/23, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora reported equity of $9.3 billion.
- By the end of 2022/23, the Māori Health Authority | Te Aka Whai Ora reported equity of $93.6 million.
