Progress On the Inquiry into Television New Zealand Limited, New Zealand Post Limited, and Industrial Research Limited Chairperson's Expenses

10 September 2003

The Auditor-General will be ready to report to Parliament in November on the results of the inquiry into Television New Zealand Limited, New Zealand Post Limited, and Industrial Research Limited in relation to expenses incurred by Dr Ross Armstrong during his terms as Chairperson of the three entities.

The time-consuming inquiry has involved extensive analysis, cross-referencing, and checking of more than 1200 separate transactions for expenses such as travel and accommodation, entertainment, communications, and professional services.

The Auditor-General will report on whether the expenses examined were properly incurred, and on any other relevant matters.

Results of the inquiry have been collated and given to Dr Armstrong for comment. His response is due next month when he returns from an overseas business trip.

The Auditor-General said Dr Armstrong has co-operated fully with the inquiry and had told him of his business travel intentions well in advance.
