Quality Assurance Manager
The Office of the Auditor-General | Te Mana Arotake (the Office) aims to improve trust and promote value in the public sector. Our audits of public organisations – from government departments to councils and schools – play a major part in ensuring that New Zealand’s public sector remains one of the most trusted in the world. No other organisation, public or private, has the overview of the whole public sector that the Office of the Auditor-General has.
We’re looking for someone to join our Audit Quality Group who’s interested in improving the quality of public sector audits and other work carried out on behalf of the Auditor-General.
The role will involve:
- monitoring the quality of annual audits and related engagements carried out on behalf of the Auditor-General;
- reporting on the results of quality assurance reviews; and
- helping to lead improvements to the quality of annual audits.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- a tertiary qualification, incorporating a sound grounding in auditing and accounting;
- membership of the CA College of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (or equivalent);
- at least five years’ practical audit experience, including experience as an Audit Manager or at a more senior level; and
- experience in public sector auditing.
The Quality Assurance Manager role is ideally a permanent position based in our Wellington office, We’re open to the successful candidate being based in another office location and also to being a secondment. Some travel may be required. The work schedule is generally five days a week (Monday to Friday), 40+ hours a week.

We’re looking for an Advisor, International Engagement to support the Office’s international work. This is an opportunity to be part of our wide-ranging capacity-building work in the Pacific region.
In this role, you’ll be working closely with the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI), Pacific audit institutions, and the Auditor-General of New Zealand in his role as the Auditor-General for the Governments of Niue and Tokelau. You’ll provide hands-on technical support to our auditors in the Cook Islands and Samoa – our twinning partners – as well as liaising with international stakeholders, supporting correspondence and official visits, and carrying out monitoring and reporting related to our funding agreements with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
- a solid understanding of accounting and auditing theory and principles;
- up-to-date knowledge of and experience with accounting and auditing practices;
- a strong understanding of the public finance system (particularly funding, authorising, and accountability arrangements and requirements);
- several years’ practical experience in public accounting and financial management or in external audits of government organisations;
- good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop material for a range of audiences and platforms; and
- experience advising on and providing one-on-one and group training.

We’re looking for a highly skilled Deputy Chief Executive, Operations to join our Secretariat team. In this role, you’ll work across the PASAI Secretariat to support and report on operational service delivery, as well as providing strong leadership and ongoing program oversight.
You’ll be responsible for leading PASAI’s annual strategic planning and work program planning processes, making sure that insights are used to inform continuous improvement. You’ll also play an important part in fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
For this role, we’re looking for an experienced leader and manager who builds high performing teams. You’ll need at least ten years’ experience in operational/program management roles, and a demonstrated track record managing people and core business services from a process, technology, and compliance perspective. Experience managing budgets and financial planning is also important.
We have an Auckland-based headquarters and a team located across the Pacific. Our work is funded by development partners (primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), and we have confirmed funding in place for the next five years.
This role is a fixed-term position through to the end of PASAI’s current funding period in June 2029. You’ll be located at the Secretariat headquarters in Auckland, and some travel may be required.

In this dynamic role, you’ll play an important part in supporting programs that enhance capability and capacity development across the Pacific. You’ll work alongside PASAI’s program directors to ensure that programs are implemented smoothly and effectively, with responsibility for assisting with program design, implementation, and reporting, as well as providing administrative support such as logistics, procurement, and travel arrangements.
