Mark Maloney
Assistant Auditor-General, Local Government
Mark heads the Office's Local Government group, which is responsible for managing the Office's relationships with the local government, environment, and energy sectors. This group is responsible for advising the Auditor-General on key matters in these sectors and any proposed audit response. The Local Government group also maintains direct relationships with each public entity in these sectors, and a broad range of sector stakeholders. The group is also the point of contact for individual ratepayers.
The Local Government group also carries out similar work for sectors associated with local government, such as council-controlled organisations, ports, airports, and licensing trusts.
Before rejoining the Office in 2022, Mark was the General Manager Risk and Assurance at Auckland Council. Prior to that he was an Audit Director and Director Audit Methodology Audit New Zealand. Mark is a member of the New Zealand Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. He gained his Commerce and Law degrees from Auckland University.
