Joana Johnston, Sector ManagerJoana joined the Office of the Auditor-General in August 2021 where she is responsible for the Education and Research, Science and Innovation portfolios.

Joana brings broad experience from across the central government sector to the team. Before joining the Office, Joana worked at Te Arawhiti as a Regional Director, Treaty Settlements. Her senior leadership roles prior to that have included Head of Business Support for the Royal Commission in to the Attack on Christchurch Mosques, and Group Manager Ministerial Services at Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority. She has also worked at the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry for the Environment, and as a Private Secretary to a number of ministers in the science portfolio.

Joana’s iwi affiliations are Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Whātua.
